La Lanta Fine Art presents “Pop Culture” featuring artwork by 2 international artists; British Brett Neal and Belgian Christian Develter.

Both artists take the visual cues; either literally or conceptually from the post modern movement of the beginning of the 20th century. Two different forms of media are on view in “Pop Culture”.

Brett Neal juxtaposes familiar images by the great masters like Picasso, Matisse, and Lichtenstein on a series of whimsical animal sculptures.

Christian Develter's artwork reminisces the famous body of work by Andy Warhol, with strong flat colors and the subject matters that pay tribute to the popular culture of the current time.

About Brett Neal

"I'm just a monkey with a paint brush. Put something in front of me and I paint it. I can only paint what I can see." Brett Neal isn't at all impressed by the concept of art as something highfalutin', nor himself as someone particularly talented.

"My father was endlessly on the move. An entrepreneur, a government official, a business man, an idealist. He worked for years in third world countries but he refused to take bribes. So he never got rich. I was born in Indonesia, then we moved to Thailand, then Kuching in Malaysia, then the West Indies, then Kenya. I was brought up in all those places. Kuching was best 'cos I could go and buy clay from the local quarry and take it home and make things."

In 1984 Brett moved back to London and spent time with David Hockney, Francis Bacon and Gilbert and George. He has been living and working in Thailand since 2006.

About Christian Develter

The aesthetic of Christian Develter, in particular in his paintings of Asian women, is one of mystery. His paintings are portraits of women who do not speak nor appear to have anything to do with being contemplated by the viewer.

Painting subjects from photographs, Develter invite us to re-examine them, to re-experience them, through another spotlight, another flash. Develter’s uniqueness lies in his radical choice of strong colors with bold shapes. His works are deeply powerful and compelling in the way they capture light and space.

Lives and works in Bangkok, Develter's artwork can be found in private collections around the world.
