Event Description

The Pikture Gallery is proud to present an Art Exhibition
" WHO LOVES BANGKOK MORE THAN ME? " by Artist Maura Moynihan
Please join us for the opening reception on Sunday 17th of December 2017 at 6:00 pm. for " WHO LOVES BANGKOK MORE THAN ME? "
Maura Moynihan attended high school in New Delhi in the 1970’s, when her father, New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, served as USAmbassador to India. Her love for the people and cultures of Asia continues to this day, and she is delighted to have a new exhibition at The Pikture Gallery
In her 20’s Ms. Moynihan spent many years working with Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine and "Andy Warhol’s TV." Andy Warhol launched Ms. Moynihan’s career as an artist and musician. She has published two bestselling works of fiction, “Yoga Hotel” and “Covergirl, and has produced three albums: “Yoga Hotel” “Bombay Superstar” and “Bangkok Taxi” about Thailand’s magical capital city.
What do I love about Bangkok?
Bangkok is a feast of beauty. Every soi bursts with Brahma, Buddha, flowers, food, wats, chedis, tuk tuks, canals, gardens. It is impossible not to paint; every wat is a treasure, every soi is a spectacle, every night is a dream, every day is a miracle.

I take my sketchbook with me every day, I use pencil and watercolors - dries quickly, easy to carry. The guide books say that Bangkok has more the 400 temples, so I go hunting for new wats every weekend, driving through Bangkok for hours with my friend and motorbike taxi driver, Samlor. In Bangkok the gods and legends of the Buddhist and Hindu and Chinese pantheon are alive. The Chinese Gods melt into the Ramakien, which is woven into the Life of Lord Buddha, both avatars of Lord Vishnu.

THE PEOPLE'S KING
King Bhumibol was a great inspiration to Thai artists, and in the past year of his mourning I went to many art expositions about the king and created my own series of portraits of The People's King. I worked with photographs that for decades hung in wats, markets and homes throughout Rama 9’s 70-year reign. I studied the monarch, statesman, monk, soldier, musician, painter, photographer, inventor, sportsman, and was so moved by the the devotion this man had for his people, and his people’s love and trust in him.
I am delighted to exhibit my work at The Pikture Gallery and hope you will be able to come to our show!

( This exhibition will be on display from Sunday 17th December until Wednesday 28th February 2017 )
