Talk about Noraset's work by French collector Jacques Carrio
 (In English with Thai translation)

After a process of self discovery and a two-year residency program in the Netherlands, Noraset Vaisayakul returned home with a new perspective. He no longer saw the world with one dimension, but started to reflect on his thoughts, looking at the world and himself at the same time. His work between 2004-2010 gradually developed in relation to this shift, revolving around the idea of 'self' and 'no self'. With 'Subconsciouscape', an engineering-based installation piece, the artist used technology to lead the viewer (and himself) to a new experience, allowing the audience to gradually examine themselves and their feelings. In other words, this is an act of Vipassana meditation. The mind was transmitted out of the body and was able to look back at the self thoroughly and fairly. Therefore, we can see something we've never seen or have never been able to.

His latest work is an experimental film called "Slow Down". Using a set of symbolism, it talks about abandoning one's self. The character can be anyone – the artist himself, the audience or someone the audience thinks he is. The story is about the creation and the abandonment of 'self'. In the artist's statement, the artist says: "Life is so lonely." It is the artist's realization about life and his sinking into the pool of indifference and loneliness in this crappy world.

Artist's Statement
 “Life is so lonely”

As an artist, what I am trying to create is an imaginary world that is my own. However, by doing so, I realize I am isolating myself from others around me. No matter what aspect of life is involved, I tend to search my own subconsciousness without considering what is really happening in the so-called real world. “I strive to avoid loneliness, while continuing to explore the emptiness of life”.

As a man barely out of childhood, I discovered how to improve and increase my understanding of life and living. I came to stay away from general contentment and pleasure. The more I know, the more I feel gloomy and depressed. So, we have to ask ourselves what is life and why do we have to be here in such a crazy world?
