World-Class American Contemporary Dance Company ODC/Dance Premieres in Hua Hin and Bangkok
Known throughout the world for its athleticism, passion and intellectual depth, San Francisco-based contemporary dance troupe ODC/Dance will astonish Thailand during their performances at the Fringe Festival 2010 Hua Hin and at Patravadi Theatre Bangkok this February. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the Patravadi High School Scholarship Fund.
ODC/Dance’s three resident choreographers—Brenda Way, KT Nelson, and Kimi Okada—are considered among America's most prominent contemporary choreographers. They have created a dynamic movement vocabulary that has greatly influenced dozens of dancers and choreographers. Throughout its 38 years of existence, ODC/Dance group has performed for more than a million people in 32 U.S. states and 11 countries.
During its Thailand premiere, ODC/Dance group will feature three original works choreographed by Artistic Director Brenda Way and performed by the company’s ten world-class dancers. “Origins of Flight” is a commissioned work by Evelyn Feintech in the memory of her husband. It takes the power, joy and pathos of a long and generative relationship as its “take-off” and “landing” points. Co-commissioned by San Francisco’s Equal Justice Society, “Unintended Consequences: A Meditation” shines a critical light on our inadvertent complicity in short-sighted and often damaging political/commercial decisions. The third work, “24 Exposures” charts ODC/Dance’s 30 year artistic evolution: from everyday movements, to contact improvisation, to virtuosic dancing, from the elegance of form to the heat of personal relationships.
