ASKANCE
New Paintings by Michael Croft

RMA Institute is very pleased to announce a solo exhibition in Bangkok by Michael Croft, a long-term resident of Thailand who is currently based in Bangsaen. Croft’s paintings radically reinvent the art historical language of self-portraiture through a labor-intensive engagement with ideas of memory. The title ASKANCE points to a mirror metaphor in terms of recognition and distortion, presence and absence and proximity and distance. The complex surfaces of Croft’s paintings function as a meditation on questions of the relationship between adult and early experiences in life.

Opening party on Saturday 12th February 2011 at 16.30 onwards.
