ผลงานชุดนี้เลียนแบบการทำงานของเครื่องฉายภาพยนตร์ แต่เลือกใช้ผืนผ้าแทนที่ฟิล์มภาพยนตร์

ภาพเคลื่อนไหวถูกพัฒนามาจาก เทคนิคการเห็นภาพติดตา คือ การนำภาพนิ่งหลาย ๆ ภาพ มาเคลื่อนที่ผ่านตาเราอย่างต่อเนื่องในระยะเวลากระชั้นชิด เราจะสามารถเห็นภาพนั้นเคลื่อนไหวได้

ผลงานเลือกใช้ลายผ้าทอไทยที่มีลวดลายเหมือนกัน และสมมาตรกัน นำมาปักและเย็บให้เป็นผืนเดียวกัน โดยให้ได้ลวดลายที่ผสมผสานกัน และมีความแตกต่างกันของขนาด ระยะห่างของแต่ละลวดลาย บางลวดลายอาจปักขึ้นเพิ่มเติม แต่ยังคงเลือกใช้ลายดั้งเดิมของผ้าทอไทย

ภาพเคลื่อนไหวที่เกิดขึ้นจากลายผ้า จึงถือเป็นการบอกเล่าเรื่องราวที่ซ่อนอยู่ ถึงแม้ลายผ้าต่างๆจะถูกออกแบบและขึ้นมานานแล้ว แต่กลับยังมีเรื่องราวให้น่าค้นหา ผ่านช่วงเวลา ผ่านวัฒนธรรม, ผ่านแนวความคิดจนทักทอและสานออกมาเป็นผืนผ้า ช่วงเวลาที่มองเห็นจึงเปรียบเสมือนได้ชม ภาพเคลื่อนไหวหรือภาพยนตร์ ที่ถ่ายทำด้วยวิธีการปักลายผ้าทอขึ้นมา เรียบเรียงจังหวะและเรื่องราวผ่านลวดลายของผ้า ดังนั้นตัวผลงาน จึงอาจเปรียบเสมือนเป็นการสร้างภาพยนตร์ที่ดึงเรื่องราวที่ซ่อนอยู่ ออกมาจากลายผ้าให้โลดแล่นและมีชีวิตอีกครั้ง

Textile Story
Multimedia Exhibition by Witaya Junma

This set of work mimics the mechanics of a movie projector, but uses textiles as opposed to movie films.

The motion picture is developed using Persistence of Vision technique. The technique uses multiple still images and flashes them through our eyes continually in a short period of time, allowing us to see them as moving pictures.

The artwork uses the same category of Thai textile patterns with symmetric shapes, embroiders them together and sews them into a single piece of fabric. The fabric presents an interwoven pattern comprising various sized patterns and spacings between them. Some parts of the design are newly created, but are based on traditional Thai textile patterns.

The motion picture created using textile patterns can be seen as a storytelling medium. Even though the textile patterns have been designed and created for centuries, they still hold untold stories to be explored today. These stories have lived through time, development of cultures and knowledge in textiles which hold them together on a fabric.

Watching the motion picture is much like watching a movie filmed using embroideries and weavings, with stories told through the patterns and their rhythms. This artwork, therefore, is much like a movie seeking to reveal its stories through revived patterns brought back to life again.
