Artist Statement

Starting in early 1980’s I had a goal to shoot one roll of black and white film every day,

sometimes I succeeded, often not.

After 20 years I had a collection of thousands of rolls of film and for each roll a contact

sheet was created, these contact sheets represented my photographic life, it was my diary.

For this installation I wanted to recreate that feeling of being in the darkroom looking

over contact sheets.

By scanning selected contact sheets and selecting certain images and then creating these three

blown up contact sheets I am presenting a photographic diary of my life in New York’s downtown from

early 1980’s until late 1990’s.

We were in love with the city and with the feeling that anything is possible and anything goes. This is my

love story and tribute to that time and to New York City.
