Concept

Throughout millennia of its history, the vast system of Chinese characters, initially based on primitive drawings, has been from time to time developed and transformed to the stage where each character is no longer a drawing, but rather a logogram.

This characteristic combined with the flexibility of brush tips has brought about a simultaneously evolving art form for the sake of convenience and beauty in writing, under the name of “Shu Fa” (“Way of Writing”), internationally recognized as “Chinese Calligraphy”.

Shu Fa is for the above reason a subject of both ergonomic and aesthetic values. It can be blended variously and harmoniously with other contemporary art forms. This has inspired me to showcase the compilation of my own calligraphy works consisting of philosophy quotes, poems and compositions with stories connecting to my daily life, as an attempt to imply that Shu Fa is an art form inseparable from our lifestyle.

My expectation is that the audience shall absorb the charm of Chinese characters and learn how to connect the old with the new, as an approach to further studies and development in the future.
