"DEPARTURES: Masterpieces of Contemporary Canadian Printmaking"

นิทรรศการจัดแสดงผลงาน 2 และ 3 มิติ กว่า 35 ชิ้น โดยศิลปินชาวแคนาดา 17 ท่านซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักในระดับสากล ผู้ซึ่งขยายขอบเขตศิลปะภาพพิมพ์เพื่อไล่ตามจินตนาการส่วนตนด้วยความมุมานะ จนเกิดเป็นผลงานที่มีรสชาติแปลกใหม่อันน่าตกตะลึง

ท่ามกลางยุคสมัยที่เต็มไปด้วยภาพโฆษณาและทีวีจอยักษ์ ศิลปินได้ต่อยอดเทคนิคภาพพิมพ์โบราณอย่าง ภาพพิมพ์แกะไม้ เมซโซทินท์ และ สกรีนพรินท์ เพื่อนำมาสร้างเป็นผลงานในบริบทร่วมสมัยอย่างน่าประทับใจ โดยนำกลไกภาพถ่ายและเทคโนโลยีดิจิทัลมาท้าทายแนวคิดดั้งเดิมของภาพพิมพ์ที่มีฐานะเป็นผลงานฝีมือเชิงช่าง ขณะเดียวกันก็วางบทบาทของภาพถ่ายเสียใหม่ให้กลายเป็นชิ้นงานที่ราวรังสรรค์ขึ้นด้วยมือ ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้จึงโดดเด่นด้วยแนวความคิดที่ลึกซึ้งและรูปลักษณ์ที่แสนดึงดูด
ในขณะที่ประเทศแคนาดามีสภาพทางภูมิศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมที่ค่อนข้างเป็นเอกเทศ แต่ศิลปินกลับตระหนักถึงคุณค่าการทำภาพพิมพ์ระดับโลก พวกเขาวาดลวดลายกันอย่างเสรีโดยมีทั้งเอเชียและยุโรปเป็นต้นแบบ ผลงานลูกผสมที่ได้ชมในนิทรรศการนี้จึงสื่อให้เห็นถึงการค้นหาอัตลักษณ์แห่งตัวตนภายใต้ความแตกต่างหลากหลายนั่นเอง

ศิลปินทั้ง 17 ท่าน ได้แก่ เดอริค เบอซง, เอลไมนา บูชาร์ค, ฌอน คอลฟิลด์, สตีเฟน ดิ๊กสัน, คาเรน ดูกัส, อเล็กซานดรา เฮสเกอร์, ลิบบี เฮก, ฟลอริน อัททิกอง, ลิซ อิงแกรม,วอลเทอร์ จูล, ดาวิดา คิดด์, กี ลองเจอวา, มาร์ลีน แมคคอลลัม, มาร์ก เซียกเนอร์, โรบิน สมิท, โอทิส ทามาซุชคัส และ เทรซี เทมเพิลทัน

"DEPARTURES: Masterpieces of Contemporary Canadian Printmaking"

At ARDEL Gallery of Modern Art (Boromrachachonnanee Road)

This exhibition presents over 35 two and three-dimensional works by 17 internationally recognized Canadian artists who are expanding the boundaries of printmaking to pursue their personal visions - forging surprising work imbued with originality and creative significance.

In an age dominated by the images of advertising and the spectacle of the Jumbo-tron, they are extending traditional analogue printmaking techniques like wood-block, mezzotint and screen-printing in tour de force works that address contemporary issues and/or enlisting photo-mechanical and digital technologies to challenge traditional notions of printmaking as craft while positioning photography in the realm of the hand-made. The resulting work is both highly conceptual and visually seductive.

While Canada is geographically and culturally isolated, it`s artists are acutely aware of world graphic traditions, drawing freely on Asian and European models. The hybrid images found in this exhibition speak of Canadian artists` search for identity within diversity.
