Pleasantly

"Pleasantly" is the latest solo exhibition of Chanachai Kedsrirat, the artist who is inspired mostly by his own life experiences and local cultures in northeast region of Thailand. These inspirations were also shown in his exhibited art works such as "Sud sanan of Northeastern 2103" and "Isaan Araya 2017".

For this exhibition, the artist was inspired by "loincloth", the local fabric which is familiar to most Thai people (especially those from the countryside). The art pieces reflect and observe the audiences' perspective toward this object that integrates local lifestyle and culture.

Chanachai was very interested with "loincloth" which is an indispensable object for countryside men. The fabric of each region is unique, differentiate by their patterns and names called by each area. These differences have become identity of each community which communicates their stories through both ethnic and lifestyle perspective.

Despite the beauty of fabric patterns, the artist focuses on presenting the point of view of agricultural and blue collar working class. For them, "loincloth" is an all-purpose cloth which its usual purpose is to wipe and absorb the owner's sweat and tears. It also absorbs the meaningful stories through its users and surroundings.

"loincloth", a three dimensional object, was converted into two dimensional paintings on canvas and splat. Chanachai arranged the elements, colors, and shapes to create the art pieces with balance and colorful patterns which maintains his unique personal style.

The complicated stories of the agricultural and blue collar working class are manifested through systematically arrangement and bold colorful patterns of the fabric, appealing for the audiences to perceive their meanings.
