Oriental Traditions - get enchanted by the loveliness of the Near and Middle East

Enamoured by the mixture of traditions with modern and western culture as well as the opulence of cultural monuments of various epochs, Roland Tuchel discovered his love for the Near and Middle East during a first trip to Egypt in 1987. While travelling in the Levant he learnt the Arabic language and participated in daily life. Thus he became acquainted with the Near and Middle Eastern countries and the people living there.

Besides cities, landscape and the important cultural monuments the archives contain also photographs of less important monuments and details of architecture. The relatedness of the artist to oriental people helped to generate sensitive portraits that document life in the orient.
