The wooden box in which the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 is sold is precious in itself. It was made in the Elie Bleu Tabletier near Paris, which has a long tradition of excellent craftsmanship. With its team of 35 cabinet makers, Elie Bleu is a familiar name among lovers of valuable cigars, stationery and watches for the production of premium-quality wooden cases and cabinets for stylish yet safe keeping of their treasures.
The fine packaging accentuates the special qualities of the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1. As the world's first series-produced 35mm lens and featuring a speed of f/1, it represents a milestone in the history of photography. It is still regarded as a masterpiece of Leica lens design today and is particularly valued by photographers for its performance in extremely poor light conditions. Due to its superlative contrast rendering properties, it can differentiate barely perceptible differences in color and exactly resolve the finest details. It is excellent for photography in twilight or at night without using a flash.

Goodbye to an icon
Limited special edition of the last 100 LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 lenses in high-quality lacquered wooden box

Leica Camera AG, Solms, is saying goodbye to an icon. Over 30 years after its market launch in 1976, production of the high-performance lens LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 is now being discontinued. The last lenses are being sold in an exclusive special edition for collectors of extra special items. Limited to 100 lenses, the special series ranks among the most exclusive of Leica's collector items. For the first time, a lens is supplied in a fine lacquered wooden box with dehumidifying function as protection against excessive humidity.

Designed exclusively for and in cooperation with Leica, the box is made of the finest woods: Guarea for the body and French cedarwood for the veneered surfaces. The lacquer consists of up to ten coats and is alternately ground and polished in seven steps until the result is absolutely perfect. All metal fittings, i.e. the hinges, grips, lock and key are covered with 2N genuine gold plating. The cushioned interior is made of Italian Alcantara.

To protect the high-quality precision optics, there is a compartment with drying agent in the lid of the case that absorbs moisture from the air and thus ensures a significantly drier environment in the closed case. In addition, a precision hygrometer has been fitted for exact humidity measurement. The case, therefore, affords the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 optimum protection from all adverse conditions, particularly from the detrimental influences of high humidity.

The special edition of the last 100 LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 lenses also comprises a high-quality leather-bound book with gilt edging. This book tells the Leica story and features a thorough description of the art of lens design. The center of attention is naturally the development of the legendary LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1, which was designed by the Leitz optics designers of Ernst Leitz (Canada) Ltd. - now ELCAN - and also made there until its production was discontinued this year.

The special series of the last 100 LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50mm f/1 lenses will be on sale from July 2008 for a recommended retail price of 520,000 Baht. . Please call IQ LAB Tel. 0 2255 5544 for more information.
