Theatre Workshops: Viewpoints and Body Alphabets in Bangkok 2012

Arts on Location's upcoming programmes in 2012: Bangkok

- Viewpoint workshop led by Nicolau Antunes (30 April-6 May, 2012)

An introduction to Anne Bogart Viewpoints as actors training, ensemble building and devising tool.

The Viewpoints was first developed by choreographer Mary Overlie in 1970's to help performers deal with two dominance issues, Time and Space. From this post modern dance concept, the technique was later expanded and adapted by theatre directer, Anne Bogart, as practical tools to create staging with actors. The training technique, consisting of improvisation and theatre sports, addresses essential performance concepts such as becoming present, active listening, spontaneity, trust, and spatial relationships, provides a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture The Viewpoints allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement and makes ensemble playing really possible.

Carlos Nicolau Antunes, a theatre facilitator, he was trained in Portugal as an actor, studied theatre directing in London and Moscow and has been teaching acting and improvisation at University of Evora, Portugal since 2007. He worked as an actor since 1993, although in the last years he has been mainly teaching and directing.
