หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ขอเชิญฟังบรรยายในหัวข้อ “อาร์คิเทคเจอร์แฟนเทเชีย : สถาปนิกขยับ สถาปัตย์เขยิบ” โดยยรรยง บุญ-หลง และกษมา แย้มตรี ในวันเสาร์ที่ 19มกราคม 2556 เวลา 14.00-16.00น. ณ หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน

การบรรยายครั้งนี้เกี่ยวกับสถาปัตยกรรมและแนวคิดล้ำยุคของสถาปนิก ส่งผลต่อการสร้างความมั่นคงแก่ชีวิตและความผาสุกของชุมชนปัจจุบัน การสร้างคุณภาพชีวิตด้วยการจัดพื้นที่อยู่อาศัยไม่ได้เป็นภารกิจอันโดดเดี่ยวของสถาปนิกและนักผังเมืองเท่านั้น จินตนาการทางสถาปัตยกรรมนับตั้งแต่ต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 มาจนถึงความคิดในการใช้เทคโนโลยีขั้นสูงหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง สำหรับปรับเปลี่ยนรูปแบบการอยู่อาศัยและสนับสนุนรูปแบบอันรีบเร่งของชีวิตสมัยใหม่ ทำให้เกิดช่องว่างระหว่างความจริง กับแนวคิดล้ำยุคหรือการคลั่งไคล้หลักวิชาของสถาปนิก กระทั่งทำให้ภาพจินตนาการออกแบบไม่สอดคล้องกับความต้องการและพื้นเพส่วนบุคคลและชุมชนของผู้ใช้สถาปัตยกรรมและผังเมือง การบรรยายจะนำเสนอกรณีศึกษาของการออกแบบและการวางระบบผังเมืองในศตวรรษที่ 20 ที่เป็นทั้งความสำเร็จและล้มเหลวของเกณฑ์การออกแบบของกลุ่มสถาปนิกหัวก้าวหน้าและกลุ่มสถาปนิกนักออกแบบร่วมสมัย มาจนถึงการทำงานของสถาปนิกรุ่นใหม่ที่นำงานออกแบบมาร่วมตอบโจทย์และสัมผัสกับประเด็นทางสังคม

เกี่ยวกับผู้บรรยาย :

ยรรยง บุญ-หลง ผู้ดูแลควบคุมโครงการพัฒนาในประเทศจีน ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของงานในกลุ่มที่ปรึกษาบริษัท DTGO จบการศึกษาด้านสถาปัตยกรรมจากมหาวิทยาลัยแคลิฟอร์เนีย เบิร์กลีย์ ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา เป็นสมาชิกสถาบันสถาปนิกอเมริกัน ตลอด 18 ปีที่นั่น เขาได้ทำงานกับองค์กรไม่แสวงหากำไร Asian Neighborhood Design ในนครซานฟรานซิสโก ทำงานร่วมกับสำนักงานฟื้นฟูและพัฒนาชุมชน เพื่อปรับปรุงสภาพที่อยู่อาศัยในชุมชนนิโกรย่าน Sixth Street และเป็นสถาปนิกในโครงการปรับปรุงโรงแรม Alexander อาคารสูงในย่าน Tenderloin เพื่อเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยราคาถูกสำหรับคนไร้บ้าน ผู้สูงอายุไร้ญาติ และผู้ติดเชื้อเอดส์โดยทำงานร่วมกับองค์กร Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation เคยทำงานเป็นที่ปรึกษาให้กับสถาบันพัฒนาองค์กรชุมชนในการออกแบบปรับปรุงชุมชนแออัดภายใต้โครงการ “บ้านมั่นคง” ปัจจุบันเป็นสถาปนิกอิสระ คอลัมนิสต์นิตยสาร B-1 และนักเขียนเจ้าของผลงาน “บันทึกลับ สถาปนิกโรบินฮูด ซานฟรานซิสโก” และ “รู รัง เรือน”

กษมา แย้มตรี เป็นสถาปนิกและนักออกแบบเพื่อชุมชน จากกลุ่ม Openspace ทำงานสถาปัตยกรรมชุมชนมาแล้วหลายโครงการ

เกี่ยวกับนิทรรศการปลอดภัยสถาน :

นิทรรศการปลอดภัยสถาน(?) เป็นนิทรรศการตีความผ่านศิลปะควบคู่กับการบรรยาย เพื่อเปิดพื้นที่ และส่งต่อบทสนทนาระหว่างศิลปะกับประเด็นทางสังคม โดยเฉพาะความเปราะบางจากสถานการณ์คุกคามความปลอดภัยในปัจจุบันผ่านศิลปะหลากสื่อ ทั้งประติมากรรม สื่อผสม ศิลปะสื่อใหม่ ภาพยนตร์ ภาพถ่าย ฯลฯ จากศิลปินไทยและต่างประเทศรวม 11 ท่าน เพื่อจุดประกายความคิด สะกิดประเด็นคำถาม สร้างความตระหนักรู้อย่างเท่าทันปัญหาอันซับซ้อนหลากหลาย ซึ่งกระทบต่อชีวิตและสังคมในมิติอันตื้นลึกหนาบาง

ความเปราะบาง ความไม่มั่นคง ไม่ปลอดภัย บันดาลให้เกิดบทสนทนาใหม่ๆ เพื่อสะท้อนความหวังและจินตนาการ ต่อการก่อรูปทางความคิดและทางปฏิบัติของพื้นที่ปลอดภัยในอนาคต การตีความและถ่ายทอดมุมมองอันรอบด้าน ‘ปลอดภัยสถาน(?)’ เรียงเนื้อหาต่อเนื่องตามธีม Dystopia Now, Utopia Never อันประกอบด้วย

1) ‘พลังที่ไม่อาจควบคุม’ ตอนที่หนึ่ง มุ่งประเด็นไปที่ผลสืบเนื่องจากภัยคุกคามตามธรรมชาติที่ไม่อาจคาดเดาได้

2) ‘โครงสร้างล่องหน’ เป็นตอนที่สอง ว่าด้วยวิกฤติการณ์ร่วมสมัยจากมนุษย์ เป็นเหตุกำหนด

3) ‘ความหวังใหม่’ นิทรรศการตอนสุดท้าย เพื่อร่วมจินตนาการร่วมถึงทางออกแห่งการ อยู่ร่วมกัน

นิทรรศการเปิดให้ชมทุกวันถึง 3 มีนาคม 2556 ที่หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน เวลา 9.00-17.00น.

The Jim Thompson Art Center cordially invites you to attend the lecture ‘Architecture Fantasia’ by Yanyong Boon-Long and Kasama Yamtree on Saturday 19th January 2013 at 2:00-4:00pm. At The Jim Thompson Art Center.

(The Program is part of ‘Safe Place in the Future(?))

This program will be focusing on Avant-Gardists envision their fascination with progress in many ways. Especially of interest are architecture and urban design that swiftly change the urban fabrication in many ways. Since the 20th century, futuristic architectural projects have brought about both positive and negative benefits to humankind. Yanyong Boon-Long, an architect and keen writer on contemporary architecture will give a talk that illustrates the successes and failures of recent visionary architectural design that provide safe places to live. He will share his ideas with emerging architect Kasama Yamtree who strongly bridges the gap between architectural discipline and the community. The two brainchildren of architecture will illustrate why and how architects use their discipline to facilitate rather than regulate.

About the Lecturers:

Yanyong Boon-Long oversees development projects in China as part of the DTGO consulting group. He graduated from UC Berkeley and is currently a registered architect in New York. Yanyong is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); during his 18-year stint in the US, he worked with Asian Neighborhood Design in redeveloping San Francisco Chinatown and other low-income communities such as the Tenderloin, Mission District, and 6th street corridor. From 2008-2011, Yanyong worked as a consultant for the Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI) on the issues of participatory housing in the slums of Bangkok. Apart from being is a regular columnist for B-1 architectural magazine in Thailand, he also wrote a romance novel which was published in 2010.

Kasama Yamtree is an Independent Architecture and Planing Professional. She is part of Openspace and has been working as a community architect on various projects and workshops throughout Thailand.

About the Safe Place in the Future (?) exhibition:

Safe Place in the Future (?), is the exhibition to coherently emphasize the artists’ interpretation of core issues about the concept of ‘Safe Place’. In addition to the actual exhibition, this event will include a lecture series, discussions, and film events that are intended to broaden discussion and bridge dialogues between art and social issues.

This exhibit focuses on the overwhelmingly fragile circumstance that both put the world at risk and brings about dangerous conditions. The response towards these uncomfortable conditions is re-examined and re-interpreted in various positive forms, including sculpture, interactive media, documentary films, photography and more, by the artists. All 11 local and international artists participate to show their strong visions by encouraging the interest of others in concerns about current safe issues. They call upon the viewer to raise questions and awareness. The artists seek to find ways to draw the audiences’ attention to current intricately complex issues on unsafe conditions.

Fragile, insecure or unsafe conditions summon up new dialogues, and evoke ways to give an expression of hope and imagination towards finding both creative and practical ways to arrive at a ‘Safe Place in the Future’. The exhibition is a compellation of conscientious artistic perspectives and interpretations on the core issue of ‘(un) safe place’. This message is articulated and assorted into three chapters under the themes ‘dystopia now, utopia never’.

1. ‘Ungovernable Power’ is a section that focuses on the after effects from the unpredictable and unstoppable forces of natural disasters.

2. ‘Invisible Structure’ The second chapter explores and concentrates on the contemporary manmade crises.

3 ‘New Hope’ The last chapter highlights alternatives and imagines of future co-habitation.

The exhibition will be on till 3 March 2013, at The Jim Thompson Art Center,
