The Izu studio in Rhinebeck, upstate New York, is a 150-year-old converted barn in the midst of Hudson Valley’s lush forests and rivers that nurture the seasonal essence of life. Living, observing, inspired — Yumiko Izu and Kenro Izu share with us, through the works in this show, the delicacy of the creations of their photographic images. Their platinum prints, among the world’s finest of any living artists (being both photographers AND printmakers), not only array their artistic sensibility and complete creative vision of each image, but also the technical skills that one will find rare to parallel.
Whether the images are still-life, nudes or skulls, their spiritual calls of the innermost artistry are on full view. As husband and wife, their works reciprocate yet differ. Experience them together, the images propel viewers to a realm of artistic experience — the world that is tangible, the pulses that bore our senses, the fragility of man and nature and what binds us in between.
