Koi Art Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of “I Wonder a Wonderland” to be held from July 4 to 31, 2013. This exhibition launches the latest artworks of Thai artist Prang Vejjajiva, who explores the personal concepts of joy, escape and perspective through the surreal eyes of the feline.
“I Wonder a Wonderland” is a solo exhibition of latest artworks by Prang Vejjajiva, daughter of former Prime Minister Aphisit Vejjajiva and talented fine art graduate of Chulalongkorn University. One of Thailand’s young generation artists, Prang explores personal concepts of joy, escape and perspective through the surreal eyes of the feline.
“I Wonder a Wonderland” takes viewers to another dimension, one filled with sweetness, imagination and possibilities. The artist explains the subject of her paintings is inspired by the cat’s nature and personality, one that complements her own. Through this series of works, the artist draws attention to the obscurity of daily objects. Approaching everyday mundane objects with a surrealist and exaggerated flair, the works possess a dreamlike quality that captures the gaze of audiences. Light-colored hues emphasize the innocence and wonder instilled in the paintings, while skillfully and successfully merging human characteristics into its subject matter and surroundings.
Each work refers to different types of joy and escape that the artist presents, whether one of personal freedom, the simplicity of a delicious meal, or enjoying an idyllic sunset. The imagination is weaved into the essence of each work, liberating the viewer of rules of obligations that come with society. With inspiration and simplicity, the artist invites everyone to view their daily lives with the same wonder and regard.
