 k\nProject Title:   “Rice is Art”\nThe rice that is cont
 ained in my display area is the actual rice contributed by 
 my village to support my participation in this \nprestigious 
 art fair.  It represents the artistic connection between my 
 art and those who support my work, and it emphasizes my \nv
 ision of art based on the natural world in Thailand.  \nIn�
 �order to participate in this international exhibition, I had�
 �to ask for support for travel and production, so I went to 
 my village \nfriends for help.   They are not rich and do�
 �not have large amounts of savings – it is a subsistence 
 economy and they live day‐to‐\nday, planning and praying f
 or a good harvest this year and next.  How can they contri
 bute to my project and support my travel?  \nAll they can 
 give is rice.  But I don’t want to take their rice and 
 simply convert it into money that will allow me to produce 
 \nanother work of art.  \nI respect their sacrifices in prod
 ucing this rice; they respect my efforts as the first recogn
 ized contemporary artist from their \nvillage. I want them to
  appreciate and participate in contemporary art, an abstract 
 concept for them and one that they have a \nhard time valui
 ng in their world of subsistence living and daily struggles.�
 �  My life as an artist shares this struggle for daily \ns
 ubsistence in order to fulfill my vision and dreams.  We ha
 ve much in common and I always want them to know what I am
  \ndoing and not abandon them. What I produce may be startl
 ing to them so I work hard to explain to my family and fr
 iends what I \ndo and why I am doing it.  \nTherefore, by�
 �using their rice as my art, I am linking the local communi
 ty with the international art world.  Rice IS art.   \n\nF
