SUMMARY:นิทรรศการ \"Reflective Echos\"
DESCRIPTION:Reflective Echoes Exhibition\nBy Sejal Surendra Sood\nAt S
ofitel So Bangkok\nSofitel So Bangkok and Sejal Surendra Sood announce
d dates for the inaugural\n“Reflective Echoes” art exhibition, rei
nforcing the hotel's commitment to art, design, and\n\nUsing repetitiv
e movement as a starting point for this latest series of oils on canva
s, Sejal\nSurendra Sood reflects on the concept of disappearing into m
editative space while rooted\nin reality. Her visceral works utilize t
he surrender of the mind to the space inhabited at\nthat point of time
and the freedom that comes with that surrender. A classically trained
\ndancer, Sejal channels the meditative state induced through her move
ments to blur the\nlines between her dancing and her art; and between
her as a performer and the spectator.\n\nThe artist explores three con
cepts: reflection through repetition; freedom through\nrepetition; and
becoming one with the space, hence Reflective Echoes. The\nrepetition
(of the spinning dance move) gives her the knowledge, the comfort and
the\nconfidence to repeat over and over again the same movement, much
like all in nature.\nThat deep meditative space is where her artworks
of dancers caught in ‘a moment in\ntime’ spring from; movements t
hat are sometimes blurry and at others sharp echoing the\n\nHer focus
essentially is the universality of movement, its relevance to life and
the sheer\nbeauty of it. A part of repeating a movement is in the sur
rendering, letting your body take\nover, letting your entire being jus
t exists and move without any instruction - something\nthat we all do
but never stop to think about. Sejal pauses long enough to transfer th
ese\n\nAn MIT trained mathematician Sejal also delves into her Indian
heritage for inspiration.\nHer vision is also influenced by the power
of mathematics that is her first love. To\nparaphrase Bertrand Russell
‘mathematics is capable of an artistic excellence as great as\nthat
of any music, because it gives in absolute perfection that combinatio
n, characteristic\nof great art, of godlike freedom, with the sense of
inevitable destiny; because, in fact, it\nconstructs an ideal world w
here everything is perfect but true.”\n\nThe “Reflective Echoes”
art exhibition will be open to the public from June 12th to 12th\nJul
y 2014 at the Street Lobby on the ground floor of Sofitel So Bangkok.\
