DESCRIPTION:Thavibu Gallery is pleased to present the art exhibition R
 ed River Rising with contemporary lacquer paintings, lacquer sculpture
 s and a video presentation by the Vietnamese artist Dinh Quan.  \nDin
 h Quan is Vietnam's most important lacquer artist, applying a techniqu
 e that has ancient roots in Asia, and which has been taken to new and 
 exciting levels in Vietnam by innovative techniques and methods. Trans
 parent, reflective and opaque all at once, the lacquer paintings of Di
 nh Quan flirt with contradictions as he stretches his limits using his
  unique style of painting.\n\nIn Red River Rising, questions of subjec
 ts and viewpoints undergo subtle inflections toward their material, sp
 atial and historical dimensions. Though his dialogue is not overtly po
 litical, he has seamlessly moved from the surreal to the everyday with
  an open ended conclusion. Whether autobiographical or drawn from the 
 lives around him, he continues to focus on relationships, always keepi
 ng the current socio-political situation in Vietnam in mind.\n\nDinh Q
 uan is 46 years old and graduated from the lacquer department of  the
  Hanoi Art University in 1990. He has exhibited extensively internatio
 nally, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Hong Kon
 g, USA, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Norway, France and Ch
 ina.  His most recent major exhibition took place in the Vietnam Fine
  Art Museum in 2009.  Dinh Quan's works are featured in the museum co
 llections of the Singapore Art Museum, the National Art Gallery of Mal
 aysia,  and the Fine Art Museum of Vietnam. \n\nArt Exhibition : Red
