 ognised artists, Vasan Sitthiket returns to Number 1 Gallery for his l
 atest solo exhibition Obsessive Compulsive. In his early fifties and w
 ith a career that spans almost three decades, the renegade artist has 
 previously utilised painting, sculpture, ceramics, performance, instal
 lation, poetry, and music, in his crusade for equality in society.   �
 �             For his latest painterly assault, Vasan cont
 inues with his creative campaign to halt the social and moral degradat
 ion being experienced on a global scale. Regardless to the futility of
  art as a vehicle to effect change, Vasan’s nihilistic art has from 
 the outset dealt with the rapacious pursuit of materialistic wealth an
 d power bought for the price of environmental, societal, and spiritual
  decimation. In Obsessive Compulsive, Vasan looks at the humanity’s 
 cyclical psychosis, and how we are doomed in our propensity to repeat 
 acts of aggression, cruelty, and destruction.    Often resolving a c
 anvas in a frenetic burst of energy, Vasan works in the manner of an e
 xpressive painter, with gestural strokes akin to the techniques of Pos
 t-impressionist painter Van Gogh. Stylistically, he vies towards satir
 ical caricature in the vein of early 20th century German artists Georg
 e Grosz and Otto Dix, while many of his themes find commonality in the
  provocative cinema of the late German director Rainer Werner Fassbind
 er.  In January this year, Vasan exhibited with Number 1 at the presti
