 solo exhibition of the award\nwinning artist Thongmai Thepram. The exh
 ibition is on view from April 4-30, 2013.\n“Mythologies of Beauty”
  investigates and challenges the notions of beauty set by society, whi
 ch\ndrive men and women to look desirable and youthful using any means
  necessary. The artist cleverly\nuses the peacock as a symbol of pride
  and vain –luring viewers with his playful symbolism and\nstunning v
 isual aesthetics. Thongmai Thepram showcases the process behind plucke
 d beauty -\ncontaining needles, masks and the inevitable doom that is 
 age.\nThe artist portrays the juxtaposition of characters that cannot 
 exist without the ritual of flaunts and\nflairs, where the boastful ar
 e determined to ‘save face’ and hide the surgical methods used, su
 ch as\ncosmetic surgery and breast enhancements. No matter how success
 fully people surgically enhance\ntheir bodies or faces, the insecuriti
 es can never be medically cured.\nThrough this series, the artist urge
 s viewers to pause and appreciate the transient moment of youth\nand b
 eauty. Beauty is not only about the physical appearance, it’s about 
 the pure and grace within. In\nrevealing the ‘secret’ that creates
  beauty, the artist showcases the old battle between age and youth. It
 ’s\nthe modern day’s real alternative to the fountain of youth.\nI
