SUMMARY:นิทรรศการ \"My Take\"
DESCRIPTION:My TakeA Ceramic Exhibitionby ShauryaAugust 30th - October
2nd, 2011 @Nelson Hays LibraryNelson Hays Library has the pleasure to
introduce you to a special person, Shaurya, 23 years old and a Down's
boy. Blessed with a cheerful dispostion he is full of life and postiv
e attitude. Besides being a potter he is alo a painter, loves Playstat
ion 3 and riding his quad bike.Shaurya's journey with pottery started
in 2006 when he joined Lakefarm, a facility for special adults in Port
Elizabeth, South Africa. Shaurya was fortunate to find a wonderful te
acher in Brenda Davis who encouraged him to create textures on plates,
clocks and to paint bowls and medals etc. Shaurya always had to strug
gle with odds such as low muscle tone in his body and a poor attention
span. On the other hand he had enormous fascination for colours and l
oved playimg with brush and paint. He eventually learned to mould clay
and paint on plates which were used as bases for making clocks.Shaury
a and his family moved to Thailand in 2009 and as luck would have it h
e was introduced to Khun Kaew and Khun Gotch and the Poteri Center, Ra
quet Club. Under their able guidance, Shaurya learned many more aspect
s of handling clay, and the process of starting and finishing a piece
of artwork. With immense patience and kindness they trained Shaurya. T
here were days when he would get cranky and on other days he would be
happily working with clay and you could hear a big \"WOW\" and his fac
e would light up.He looks forward to every class at Poteri and the tim
e spent there has given him a sense of self, an expression of the way
he sees the world around him, the joy of creating something he can rel
ate to, and most of all being happily productive. These are precious g
ifts. This exhibition marks the culmination of 2 years of his work at t
he Poteri Studio. For more information :Nelson Hays Library195 Surawong
