SUMMARY:นิทรรศการ \"KNUTIG\"
DESCRIPTION:KNUTIG\nAn installation by Ataphol Sujirapinyokul\nNovembe
 r 7 - December 29 2013\nCurated by Brian Curtin\nH Project Space is ve
ry pleased to announce an installation by Ataphol Sujirapinyokul, a yo
ung artist from Thailand who works across genres of craft, design and
installation.\nKnutig is a Swedish term for gnarled. Ataphol works wit
h banana tree fibers and other natural products to create forms derive
d from elements of nature. Using methods of knitting and knotting, the
artist plays with the nostalgic aura of traditional crafts while intr
oducing a contemporary sensibility in terms of scale and space.\nUnder
standing nostalgia as a recognition of loss, Ataphol’s woven structu
res are icons of time past, while also hinting at the artist’s inter
est in a Buddhist homage to time. Drawing on the materials and symboli
sm of nature with labor-intensive structures, KNUTIG is a meditation o
n life-processes from origin, growth and decline; and a revealing enga
gement with the practice of craft for the contemporary context.\nAtaph
ol Sujirapinyokul is based in Bangkok. A graduate of the University of
Boras, Sweden, and Thailand’s King Mongkut Institute of Technology
Ladkrabaeng, he exhibits international and has won a number of awards.
Exhibitions include J-D,\nLagöm (2013), RMA Institute, Bangkok, A Wh
ite Kale Object (2010), Åhaga, Borås, and Centre of Urban Culture (2
010), Kino Siska, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Ataphol’s awards include 1st
Prize (2010) for his TEXTILE BOOK at the University of Ljubljanaand 2n
d Prize (2007) for Gift Design at Thailand’s Department of Export pr
omotion. He was the recipient of a Thai Royal Government Scholarship (
2008 -2010) and his works are regularly profiled in the media.\n\nFor
