SUMMARY:นิทรรศการ “In the Serpent’s Belly”
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibition: In the Serpent's Belly\nArtists: Chatchawa
 n Amsomkid\nDates: 7 June – 5 July, 2014\nVenue: Thavibu Gallery\nOp
 ening: Saturday 7h\nOpen: Mondays – Saturdays: 11:00 – 19:00\n Tha
vibu Gallery is pleased to present the collection of sculptures in met
al, resin and rubies by the\nThai artist Chatchawan Amsomkid.\n The in
spiration behind the series of sculptures in this exhibition stems fro
m the artist’s curiosity\nof what is the root of corruption and the
disastrous effects it has on a country and society. The\nsnakes featur
ed in the exhibition are symbolic of greed, the root cause of corrupti
on, that knows\nno boundaries. A snake’s physicality enables it to d
evour a prey much bigger than itself, which\ncan be likened to endless
greed and corruption that feeds it. Nail heads of various sizes and n
atural\nauthentic ruby gems were incorporated in creating the sculptur
es, giving them a disturbingly life-like\nappearance. Chatchawan hopes
to take his viewers on a journey of the evils of corruption and how i
t\nis a global threat. He hopes it will remind the audience on how cor
ruption is a roadblock to economic\ndevelopment and that it aggravates
inequality and injustice and ultimately undermines stability in all\n
aspects of society.\n Chatchawan Amsomkid was born in 1976, graduated
with a MFA from King Mongkut's Institute\nof Technology Ladkrabang and
is currently an Associate Professor at the same institution. He was\n
featured in several group exhibitions, as well as picking up the bronz
 e (2007, 2009) and silver\nprizes (2008) in the Mixed Media category o
f the Annual National Exhibition of Art. He has had\nsolo exhibitions
at Thavibu Gallery in 2010 and at Jamjuree Gallery in 2011. This is hi
s third solo exhibition.\n\nFor more information visit http://www.por
