 ted to join the opening reception on Saturday January 7th, from 6-8pm\
 nChai (Surachaithawe Thawesukphaisan), 32 years old, is a graduate fro
 m the Mahamakut Buddhist University. Beside being a Water Colour paint
 er he is also a Floral Artist. The place where he grew up was the beau
 tiful wonderful land of South Isaan. There was so much natural beauty 
 and nature. In recent years the natural landscape has been damaged thr
 ough land clearing.\nDuring the Vietnam War era the Thai government, u
 nder strong suggestion from Western governments, promoted large-scale 
 clearing of forested areas around the country in an effort to destroy 
 hide-outs of communist insurgents. Mnay of the largest were in Isaan. 
 In less than 15 years, forest cover in Isaan was rediced from 38% (197
 3) to 13% (1987). Added to this, the merging of many farms has seen th
 e landscape change.\nHis paintings reflect his past memeories of this 
 landscape; they are the images from his childhood. He wants to capture
  the changing light across the rice farms and forest remnants.\nChai w
 ill never forget this landscape that is now changed and damged, his pa
 intings recall this period. While his work is in many private collecti
 ons around the world, this is his first exhibition which focuses on Is
 aan's natural beauty. He doesn't want to forget about this period.\n\n
