SUMMARY:นิทรรศการ I'll Never Smile Again
DESCRIPTION:\n\n2 February –31 March 2012\nOpening Reception: Thursd
ay 2 February 2012, 7pm\n**Artist kindly asks your corporation to only
wear black and white color when attending this opening reception**\nW
TF Gallery is pleased to announce the art installation “I'll never s
mile again” by Prapat Jiwarangsan. Newly graduated from the Royal Co
llege of Art, London, Prapat's work depicts the personal psychological
confusion arising from Thailand’s political and social/class confli
cts.\n The exhibition is inspired by current tensions surrounding Thai
land’s complex relationship with personal liberty and freedom of exp
ression. The exhibition’s concept derives from Prapat’s experience
s during his fine-art study in London, funded by the Thai Government.
Through his obligatory relationship with, frequent visits to, and fina
lly exhibition of his work in the historical spaces of the Office of E
ducational Affairs, Royal Embassy of Thailand in London, Prapat observ
es the extended meaning within the social and diplomatic protocol of t
he Thai elite in the past, conveyed by objects and images on the premi
ses. Referring to the historical information he witnessed there, he fo
rms linkage to the 2010 violence in Bangkok that created a reign of te
rror and confusion (particularly when viewed from outside his home cou
ntry). As a result, Prapat conveys an acute sensitivity to politics an
d contemporary society in an ongoing conceptual engagement.\nSearching
for truth is not the objective of this show. What matters is critical
discourse, inquiry, comparison, change of outlook, understanding matt
ers which are beyond your prediction, and the value of being human, as
well as subjects who are acclaimed as being above humans. The audienc
es are allowed the interpret their own understanding of the works from
their perception of these arts that display the \"truth\" beneath its
surface. All matters shown here ask you to consider whether you can s
till smile at these fictions.\nBorn in 1979, Prapat graduated with a M
aster of Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, London in 2011. He is
currently working as artist and officer at Office of Contemporary Art
and Culture, Ministry of Culture, Thailand. His work has been shown i
n Bangkok and London.\nThe exhibition comprises 10 works including pho
to collages, installations, video art and multimedia works created in
2010-2012. The exhibition is a continued version of his show at the Of
fice of Educational Affairs, Royal Embassy of Thailand in London, titl
ed \"The Impossible Dream\", incorporating the mutation of meaning in
evolving contexts and new environments, and depicting the interaction
between the human mind and artistic rendering of political meaning.\nV
