nsFree Entry\r\nHOW 'YE DOING? — Artist Statement by Kimmo KaukoThe
second most polarizing and opinion-dividing celebrity today (after pre
sident Trump) is arguably Kanye West. It seems like there's not a day
that goes by without West saying or doing something that stirs controv
ersy and by him not being able to articulate his thoughts clearly, has
let to misinterpretation. For the past two years, I have been followi
ng Kanye almost daily in the news and social media and have come to th
e conclusion that everything written about him is all about interpreta
tion and how much the confusion says about the times we are living in.
This exhibition is about trying to understand Kanye's ideas and the t
opics that they cover. “How ‘Ye Doing?” is an art installation t
hat will be set in four sections: Depression, Symbolism, Social Media
and Free Thought.\r\nKIMMO KAUKOBorn in Stockholm, Sweden in 1980. Kim
mo Kauko is a Visual artist based in Bangkok, Thailand. Kauko’s pass
ion for cinema and arts started at a very young age, but it wasn’t u
ntil moving to Bangkok in 2012, that sparked his artistic career. His
well-known projects are The Friese-Greene Sessions, Between Lost and F
ound, and Last days of Lumpinee. Kauko mostly works in mediums of film
and photography. He is known for his provocative and fresh style, he
hints at hidden narratives exploring the human sub-conscious. His work
is driven by questions rather than answers, approaching projects more
open-minded with room for the unexpected, whether it be a documentary
, fine art or fiction Kauko keeps his approach the same. His work feat
ures in two upcoming books: Between Lost and Found (2019) and Last Day
s of Lumpinee (also with photographer Paul Lukin), (2019). Kauko is a
co-founder and Photography instructor at Bangkok Creative Center as we
ll as Curator at Scene Gallery at Whiteline.https://www.kimmokauko.com
