 e could be traced back to 1999 when he started making small paper-base
 d works using magazine cut-outs that were primarily meant as exercises
  in color and compositional strategies. These pieces were more persona
 l in nature and were never conceived to be shown. Four years later, a 
 friend from an artist-run space made a studio visit and was surprised 
 to find out about the works and finally convinced Pastrana to mount th
