SUMMARY:นิทรรศการประติมากรรม
 ่วมสมัย “แผ่นดิสก์ตายเเ
 ้ว เเต่ดิสโก้ยังอยู่!” (Disc
 is Dead, Disco is Alive!)
DESCRIPTION:Sutthirat Supaparinya: Disc is Dead, Disco is Alive!Instal
lation Art Exhibition12 January –8 March 2011 Opening Reception: Wed
nesday 12 January 2011, 7pm WTF GalleryPresents Chiang Mai based artis
t Som Sutthirat Supaparinya’s first major exhibition in Bangkok sinc
e 2004. Acclaimed for her video installations and inter-active arts, S
utthirat’s work reports on encounters and situations that she render
s into artistic metaphors. The exhibition is politically inspired and
underlines the adverse social impact derived from the rapid developmen
t of technology and media. Whether it is the lack of freedom of expres
sion, the distorted content of news and media influenced by government
during Thailand’s last political crisis, or the sore-eyed bombardme
nt of advertising in the public arena, Sutthirat reflects her acute se
nsitivity to politics and contemporary society into a conceptual engag
ement, through installation art techniques.Born in 1973, Sutthirat is
a curator and visual artist working and living in Chiang Mai, Thailand
 .
She graduated with a Master Scholar of Media Arts from Hochschule
für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig, Germany. She is a guest lecturer
in the “Thai and Southeast Asia Studies Program”, Payap University
and Media and Communication Technology at Chiang Mai Rajabhat Univers
ity. Acclaimed for VDO and installation artist, her works have been sh
own in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Korea, Australia, and Italy. She has also
participated in the 3rd Guangzhou Triennial in China. The exhibition c
omprises five installations all created during 2005-2011. Two of the w
orks will premiere at WTF gallery, portraying the interplay between th
e medium and the message, the mutation of meanings thereof, mediated b
 y context.The exhibition is supported by Chic39 Bed & Breakfast (www.c
hic39.com), Jim Thompson Art on Farm, Vodka Stolichnaya and Canon.Visi
