 nce Francaise de Bangkok is proud to showcase the fantastic movies of 
 the Pre-Nouvelle vague period selected by Pathompong Manakitsomboon, f
 ormer film programmer for the World Film Festival. The films will be s
 creened throughout the weekend of September 16 – 18, 2011 at Allianc
 e Francaise’s auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. 
 All movies will be in French with English subtitles.The new wave cinem
 a movement “Nouvelle Vague”, developed after the Second World War,
  involved legendary film directors such as Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc
  Godard, Claude Chabrol and Eric Rohmer. They reinvented cinema by dec
 onstructing and redefining narratives, film techniques and acting. Fil
 ms shown during this 3-day cinema weekend heralded this visionary move
 ment. Weekend with 5 moviesThe first screening will begin on Friday w
 ith “L’Atalante” the only film made by director Jean Vigo who di
 ed shortly after its release in theaters. The program line-up on Satur
 day and Sunday includes “French Cancan” of director Jean Renoir’
 s fictionalized account of the creation of the notorious Moulin Rouge 
 cabaret in Paris; “Le Diable boiteux” the life of French diplomat 
 Prince de Talleyrand-Périgord directed by Sacha Guitry based on his o
 wn play “Talleyrand”; director Alexandre Astruc’s film “Une Vi
 e” based on Guy de Maupassant’s novel by the same name and Roger L
 eenhardt’s “Les Dernieres Vacances”. The screenings will be fol
 lowed by a discussion with Sonthaya Subyen, founder of the group Filmv
