 nAlliance Francaise de Bangkok is proud to showcase the fantastic movi
 es of the Pre-Nouvelle vague period selected by Pathompong Manakitsomb
 oon, former film programmer for the World Film Festival. The films wil
 l be screened throughout the weekend of September 16 – 18, 2011 at A
 lliance Francaise’s auditorium. The event is free and open to the pu
 blic. All movies will be in French with English subtitles.\n \nThe ne
 w wave cinema movement “Nouvelle Vague”, developed after the Secon
 d World War, involved legendary film directors such as Francois Truffa
 ut, Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol and Eric Rohmer. They reinvented c
 inema by deconstructing and redefining narratives, film techniques and
  acting. Films shown during this 3-day cinema weekend heralded this vi
 sionary movement.\n \nWeekend with 5 movies\nThe first screening will
  begin on Friday with “L’Atalante” the only film made by directo
 r Jean Vigo who died shortly after its release in theaters. The progra
 m line-up on Saturday and Sunday includes “French Cancan” of direc
 tor Jean Renoir’s fictionalized account of the creation of the notor
 ious Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris; “Le Diable boiteux” the life o
 f French diplomat Prince de Talleyrand-Périgord directed by Sacha Gui
 try based on his own play “Talleyrand”; director Alexandre Astruc
 s film “Une Vie” based on Guy de Maupassant’s novel by the sam
 e name and Roger Leenhardt’s “Les Dernieres Vacances”.\n \nThe 
 screenings will be followed by a discussion with Sonthaya Subyen, foun
 der of the group Filmvirus on Sunday at 18:30 hrs.\n \nScreening sche
