The exclusive concert definitely not to be missed.\n \nKejaj means blend in Breton\nKejaj is the first and fore most band with its roots in Brittany (the region in north-west of Fran ce) whose approach has always been to mix musicians and music influenc ed by other traditions so as to create true “dance music.” Launche d in 1992 by Hervé Le Lu, Kejaj participated in the famous “En Arwe n” festival in Brittany.\n \nFour musicians to get people to dance\ nBehind Kejaj’s creation was Hervé Le Lu who, among other things, c reated the nearly mythical “fest-noz” music band “Carré Manchot .” A true music worlds’ explorer who plays the traditional oboe st yle, wind instrument “bombarde”, he extensively traveled to search for the best traditional oboe players so they could perform at the fe stival “Bombarde et Cie” (bombarde and company) which he launched in Klegereg in Brittany. The group now includes Ronan Pellen who plays the traditional string instrument “cistre,” Yannis Noguet on the accordion and Etienne Callac on the base. Together, those four musicia ns cleverly mix Breton and international music in ways that makes you irresistibly want to dance!\n \nAn album and an exceptional gathering of musicians in Bangkok\nReleased last January, Kejaj’s first album , which was mainly recorded live, has been well\nreceived by critics a nd the public. Played in a straightforward and heartwarming way, the\n tunes are upbeat and, as they follow each other seamlessly, plunge lis teners into the best\nof Celtic “fest-noz” festivals’ atmosphere . During the concert at the Alliance francaise, Kejaj will be joined b y several Thai traditional musicians such as Tawit Udchachon, Nikom Pa enjeng, Siranon Jirochjaruwat, Chalita Sawaddee, Sorawids Chailertwani tkul and Mattaya Putthong who will add the voice of their instruments to those of the French band, thus creating a Thai style “fest-noz. \n \nFest-noz\nA Breton word meaning night festival, a “fest-noz is a traditional event held in Brittany. Those dance nights are know n for dances performed in lines or circles. Bands’ musical instrumen ts at such festivals usually are typical of the region and range from the wind instrument “bombarde,” which is similar to the oboe, to a sort of bagpipe called “biniou.” Very much a part of Brittany’s history, the “fest-noz” has been selected for inscription on Unes co’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage as Brittany’s intangible heritage, which consists of a series of regional cultural components including a song repertoire, instrumental pieces, dances and social ev ents.\n \nThe Kejaj concert will be staged at the auditorium of Allia nce Francaise.
